REUTERS/Julia Nikhinson/File PhotoJune 30 (Reuters) - A new professional women's ice hockey league will launch in January 2024, bringing together the world's best players in a unified league, it was announced on Friday. News of the league ends a long-running divide between the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) and the seven-team Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). Established in 2015 as the National Women's Hockey League, the NWHL rebranded to become the PHF in 2021 and its teams competed each year for the Isobel Cup. The deal has also grabbed the attention of the National Hockey League (NHL), which has long said it would not provide fiscal support so long as there were two competing leagues. "The National Hockey League congratulates the Professional Women's Hockey Players' Association and the Premier Hockey Federation on their agreement," the NHL said in a statement.

June 26 (Reuters) - Fenway Sports Group, owner of Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox and Premier League club Liverpool, said on Monday they have added a team in the TGL, the tech-forward team golf league developed by Tiger Woods, to their portfolio. A total of six teams will make up the TGL, an innovative, new primetime golf league that fuses technology and live action that begins play in January at a specially designed state-of-the-art arena in Palm Beach, Florida. "We are excited for this new journey as one of the six inaugural TGL teams in honour of a city whose love and passion for sports is unparalleled," said Fenway Sports Group principal owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner in a statement on the TGL website. Teams will be made up of three players and feature some of the PGA Tour's biggest names. Players who have committed to the project include 15-times major winner Woods, Masters champion Jon Rahm and four-times major winner Rory McIlroy.

Another sports powerhouse has joined the ownership ranks of the golf league being developed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. Woods, McIlroy and McCarley founded TMRW Sports Group (pronounced "tomorrow") last year in partnership with the PGA Tour. At the time, it was seen as a response to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league, which was embroiled in a bitter legal fight with the PGA Tour. This month, however, the PGA Tour and LIV agreed to merge business interests to form a new company. McIlroy is one of the biggest public critics of LIV, and Woods reportedly rejected a massive offer to join the Saudi-funded league.

The LA Dodgers' LGBTQ Pride Night turned controversial when an activist group that offended the religious right was invited. But their claim to have successfully boycotted a Dodgers game for its LGBTQ Pride participation and guests — notably echoed by presidential candidate Ron DeSantis — appears to be false. Ron DeSantis, who recently launched his 2024 presidential bid, tweeted in support of the protesters and claimed the stadium was "virtually empty." "The virtually empty stadium for the game itself was a powerful image," DeSantis said in his tweet. Jareck declined to answer Insider's other questions about the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and the protesters.

DirecTV has struck a multiyear deal to continue broadcasting the National Football League's "Sunday Ticket" package to commercial establishments, including bars and restaurants. The NFL sold the "Sunday Ticket" commercial rights to EverPass Media, a joint venture owned by private equity firm RedBird Capital Partners and the NFL, earlier this year. The companies confirmed the "Sunday Ticket" deal on Thursday afternoon. Bars and restaurants, such as Buffalo Wild Wings and Hooters, rely on "Sunday Ticket" to bring in big crowds on Sundays during the NFL season. The NFL signed a seven-year deal with Google 's YouTube TV for the residential "Sunday Ticket" broadcast rights in December.
The Phoenix Suns and Mercury have become the first teams to move on from the troubled broadcaster Diamond Sports Group. The NBA and WNBA's Suns and Mercury will show their games on TV and streaming going forward. The price of the streaming service hasn't been announced yet, but the teams said fans will be able to watch the Mercury for free for at least the first season. Diamond said the move violates bankruptcy law and previous contracts with the teams that expired recently, the AP reported. Suns CEO Josh Bartlestein told ESPN Diamond's claims were "inaccurate," and it wouldn't stop the teams from moving forward with the new agreement.
A general exterior view of Climate Pledge Arena before the game between the Seattle Kraken and the Carolina Hurricanes on October 17, 2022. Much like the broader world of commercial real estate, arenas, and stadiums have been slowly adopting sustainable practices over the last few decades, from recycling programs to energy efficiency efforts. That led to what has become the Climate Pledge Arena. AMBSE has even created a "playbook" for other stadium operators to follow if they also want to get to zero waste. It's reached a level of critical mass where people have moved past greenwashing, and they're making substantive changes to their business practices," Cannon said.

Baseball is a game that thrives off of routine and rhythms, but this year the league is shaking things up. As teams take the field on March 30 for Opening Day of the 2023 baseball season, keep an eye out for these three major changes. Brace Hemmelgarn | Getty Images Sport | Getty ImagesPerhaps the most noticeable change for fans will be the implementation of a formal pitch clock. Batters, meanwhile, will need to be in the batters' box before the pitch clock ticks down to the eight second mark or they will be given a strike. The pitch clock has on average reduced the length of games by an average of 26 minutes, the MLB said when announcing the new rule.
Home base planFor the baseball fan looking to watch as many games as possible, a traditional pay TV service is still the go-to place. Discovery' s TBS, as well as Fox Corp. 's broadcast and pay TV networks, take up a decent chunk of the schedule. However, as more options are introduced, regional sports networks are getting fewer games and fans have to pay more to watch all games. With a higher rate of consumers dropping pay TV bundles and opting for streaming services, many networks have created direct-to-consumer streaming app options. Few offset the pay TV losses, but at least provide an option for fans wanting to stream.
The YES Network is launching a direct-to-consumer streaming service, giving non-cable subscribers the ability to watch New York Yankees games. The YES Network will charge $24.99 per month, or $239.99 annually, according to an announcement. The YES Network broadcasts games for the Yankees, the NBA's Brooklyn Nets and the WNBA's New York Liberty to fans that live in the greater New York area. "We are pleased to introduce a direct subscription option," said Yes Network CEO Jon Litner in a statement. The YES Network is co-owned by the Yankees and a corsortium of other investors including Amazon and Sinclair Broadcast Group.

Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez will now start Tuesday's contest while the Astros will stick with McCullers as their Game Three starter.
